Upgrade To Double Glazing

Modern comfort. Original character.

The best of both

Double Glazing Inside Your Original Sashes

You should not have to choose between a warm house and a beautiful one. I upgrade original timber sash windows with slimline double glazed units, fitted into the existing sashes wherever the timber allows.

Glazing bars and sight lines are preserved, the timber frames stay, and from outside it is almost impossible to tell anything has changed. Alongside draught proofing, it transforms how a period home feels in winter.

Why upgrade

What Double Glazing Does For A Period Home

Warmer rooms

Slimline sealed units cut heat loss dramatically compared with single glazing, so rooms hold their warmth and bills come down.

Quieter homes

Double glazing combined with draught proofing takes the edge off traffic, trains and busy streets.

Less condensation

The warmer inner pane means far less moisture streaming down the glass on cold mornings.

Original character kept

Your existing timber sashes are upgraded, not replaced. From the street, the house looks exactly as it should.

Right For Some Windows, Not For All

Not every sash can take a double glazed unit, and on some listed buildings consent is needed. I will always tell you straight what your windows can and cannot accommodate, and where secondary measures such as draught proofing and shutters make more sense.

Where it does fit, the upgrade is done with the same traditional care as any restoration: rebalanced weights, new cords and a proper painted finish.
